Since the 1800’s, women have fought with determination to create equality between genders. Through time, women have earned the right to vote, become CEOs of Fortune 500 companies as well as run for president of the United States. March is National Women’s History Month, a time to take a look at all of the accomplishments women have made in the past and how much of a role they have in our society. Here are 9 female CEOs, inventors and innovators that are dominating the 21st century.
Famously known from the show Shark Tank and as the “Queen of QVC,” Lori Greiner is one of the most prolific inventors in the retail industry. In 1996, Greiner invented, patented, produced and marketed her first product. Designing a plastic jewelry organizer that held earrings, she quickly knew she wanted to bring products to people that would help make their everyday lives easier. From then on, she founded the company For Your Ease Only, Inc., stars in her television segment Clever & Unique Creations by Lori Greiner on QVC and has created 500 products to this date.
An English inventor and entrepreneur known for her inventions, the Haberman Feeder and the Anyway Cup is Mandy Haberman. After having a child born with Stickler syndrome, a congenital abnormality that included a cleft lip, Haberman invented a necessity for her daughter. The Haberman Feeder was her first invention which was a bottle designed for infants with sucking difficulties and is now widely used in hospitals. Haberman revolutionized baby products with her second invention known as the Anyway Cup, the world’s first totally non-spill cup for kids.
You might know Joy Mangano as actress Jennifer Lawrence who portrayed her in the movie “Joy”. Written about her life as an inventor, businesswoman and entrepreneur, Mangano is famously known for her invention of the self-wringing Miracle Mop, which was the main feature of the movie written about her life. With her own savings and investments from family and friends, Joy made a prototype that she sold at trade shows in Long Island and on QVC. Her sales started skyrocketing when QVC allowed Mangano to appear on-air to sell it herself. She is now the president of Ingenious Designs, LLC and appears regularly on the HSN television shopping channel.
Sara Blakely was getting ready for a party when she realized she didn’t have the right kind of undergarment to wear with her outfit. She went to work with scissors and sheers and created SPANX. Blakely is listed as #91 Most Powerful Women, has been named the world’s youngest, self-made female billionaire by Forbes Magazine and TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. She has made her company’s mission to help women feel great about themselves and their potential.
Sheila Lirio Marcelo

Care.com was founded in 2006 by Marcelo due to her family situation of caring for two children as well as her two parents. With the success of her first website, Marcelo created another startup, WomenUp.com to help increase women’s roles in the global economy by providing leadership training, mentoring and support to women through every stage of life and careers.

This 3 for 1 package created a service that helps take a little a bit of stress out of your day while being a parent. HopSkipDrive was founded by these three professionals who are working moms. Think Uber for children. The company was started to help parents that need to be three places at once. When you have children of all ages, time schedules can collide. HopSkipDrive is a service that caters to busy families. Parents can request and pay for rides for their children at least 24 hours in advance using a smartphone app. The drivers have to go through an intense 15- point certification process to be considered to become a driver. Each female has a head role in the company, McFarland as the CEO, Becher as the Head of Policy and People and McGlothlin as the CMO. These three ladies are changing the vision of childcare, as well as women inventors and innovators.
Women are continuing to change the world along aside men. There is still a gender gap, however women are leading the way to close it quickly. Leaders like these women inventors and innovators are becoming cultural icons that are representing society today.
