Copywriters spend months trying to come up with an ad that is memorable for billboard applications. And even when they do manage to create a lasting impression, it’s unlikely you’ll remember it for too long.

The folks at Aquascript may have the answer with its waterfall technology, which is capable of producing graphical animations for parties, receptions, shopping malls, clubs, hotels, and any other public venue that is looking to add a little pizzazz to its scenery. According to the manufacturer’s official website, specially designed hardware and software synchronize hundreds of water valves that eject water droplets, forming a moving image. The system supports real time updates, can be connected to the internet, and is remote controlled. The waterfall can also be synched with lights, projected images, and music, with the help of a DMX interface.

Although this waterfall technology has been around since 2008, it is still a one of a kind medium, which could be used to impress visitors at shows or be used for advertising applications. Unusual displays don’t stop with waterfall technology. Researchers at Mitsui Engineering at their Akishima laboratory have created a pool capable of displaying images with the help of wave generators surrounding it. FogScreen uses a wall of fog to project messages, creating a projection that is interactive and cool to look at. Although billboards aren’t likely to go away anytime soon, except some odd displays to be available in the future as advertisers look to separate themselves for traditional advertising.
