Boeing made headlines went it made its first delivery of its Boeing 787 this September. Yes, Boeing is getting a lot of media attention for being delayed for two years. However, the unveiling of the 787 reveals some new features that airlines passengers across the world will soon enjoy…

New Window Shades

Rather than having to move a piece of plastic to control your window, each window will have a button next to it so that you can control the amount of luminosity that gets inside. Not only will you have more control over the amount of sunlight that gets in, the windows themselves are larger than in any other commercial airliner.

Complete Redesign

Walking into the 787, the plane doesn’t feel nearly as cluttered as other models. Blue lighting on the ceiling creates a relaxing atmosphere and gives passengers the feeling that the sky is right above them. The plane does not have a galley, meaning the entire cabin is much more spacious and less cramped. In addition, the plane features large stow bins and latches that are much easier to open and close. The 787 plane was designed with the passenger in mind and every airline that uses one will achieve at least a temporary competitive advantage.

New Technology

The 787 also features…

  • Self monitoring systems that report the plane’s status to on ground personal.
  • A super fuel-efficient engine that was designed by Rolls-Royce and General Electric.
  • Composite materials that make up half of the plane’s core structure.

Although passengers won’t directly see these technical improvements, they will be flying on a top of the line plane that they can be sure utilizes the latest in safety and efficiency.

What will the distant of future airplanes have in store? European aircraft manufacturer Airbus unveiled a concept for a see-through airplane, which would offer its passengers a panoramic view of the sky. Airplanes will not only get us from point A to point B, but provide us with some dazzling entertainment, if Airbus has its way.
