“It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud…It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine…I finally cracked it.”
The aforementioned statement is from Steve Jobs, who is referring to his vision for an Apple TV. The next “big” Apple product may come as early as 2012 and as late as 2013 in the form of a television, whose supposed timing comes from Gene Munster, an analyst with strong connections to Apple suppliers in Asia.
The Apple TV may make use of current Apple technology, which includes Siri and iCloud, both of which can be used to make a simple user interface. Today’s television sets may feature dazzling HD technology, but the interface that is used to navigate a typical television is still convoluted, at least by Apple standards. The everyday remote control has too many buttons on it, finding something interesting to watch requires scrolling through hundreds of channels, and the switching controls between watching a DVD or Blu-Ray and cable or satellite TV can still cause problems. In short, Apple can simplify a lot of things on current television sets with their current technology and get people excited about a product purchase, which most consumers yawn about.
Munster says that the manufacturers of high end TVs will be in for a wake-up call and that the upcoming Apple TV will resemble an enormous iPad that will use Siri voice assistant technology.
