If you thought that Google Maps was cool, get ready to be blown away. Apple has acquired C3 Technologies, which uses declassified missile targeting methods in their photo realistic 3D mapping technology. Their 3D maps are being hailed as Google Maps on steroids because of their incredible detail and accuracy.

In 2009 Apple acquired Placebase and its purchase of C3 is Apple’s third acquisition of a map making company, leading many to believe that, in the very near future, Apple will cut its ties with Google Maps by offering something superior in its iOS 6 software update. C3 works by using planes, equipped with angled digital SLR cameras that take pictures of the sides and tops of buildings. C3’s complex algorithms allow it to figure out the 3D dimensions of its aerial photography, culminating in a 3D landscape that is suitable for video games.

The CEO, CFO, and lead product manager of C3 Technologies have joined Apples iOS team and there is no doubt that Apple will soon unveil an acquired military inspired technology that will have people oohing and aahing, just like people are already going with Siri.
